According to Hinduism, Shri Ganesha signifies the beginning of every good and positive thing. Once Mother Parvati was alone and wanted someone to guard the entrance of her house. Then with the help of his powers he created Lord Ganesha with his own hands. He was guarding outside the house and mother Parvati was inside the house.

At the same time Lord Shiva returned there. Then he met Lord Ganesha for the first time. Lord Shiva wanted to enter the house but as per the orders of Mother Parvati, Lord Ganesha did not allow him to go inside. Actually, Lord Ganesha was not familiar with Lord Shiva till then. When Lord Ganesha did not allow him to enter the house despite repeated explanations to Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva became angry. Out of anger he severed the neck of Lord Ganesha from his body.

When this news reached Goddess Parvati, she became angry and said in an aggressive tone that if her son was not returned, she would destroy the entire world. But, since the severed head could not be used to revive Ganesha, the head of an elephant was used to revive Lord Ganesha. Since then Lord Ganesha also started being honored with the name Gajanand.

Lord Ganesha is the son of Mahadev and Goddess Parvati and brother of Lord Kartikeya, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati. Lord Ganesha is also the embodiment of the three qualities of Hinduism, intelligence, siddhi and riddhi, which means knowledge, spirituality and prosperity. It is believed that Lord Ganesha himself is the embodiment of wisdom and the other two personalities, Siddhi and Riddhi, are considered goddesses. These two goddesses are known as the wives of Lord Ganesha.

The marital status of Lord Ganesha has been speculated about in several Hindu scriptures – Mudgala Purana and Shiva Purana. According to Shiva Purana, centered on Lord Shiva, it is mentioned that Lord Ganesha has two wives, Riddhi and Siddhi. Through them he has two sons. Good luck was received from Goddess Riddhi and benefits were received from Goddess Siddhi.
